I just booked a Qantas first class ticket with 110,000 American AAdvantage miles and $29.80 for the taxes and fees!

Big thanks to my friend Derrick from Award Travel 101 who found business class space and motivated me to start a search for first class space!

Now, on a good day, finding Qantas business class space from the US to Australia is a rarity. Finding Qantas first class space is pretty much a unicorn. So, you can imagine my excitement when I saw this.

Naturally, I booked it immediately… then told my girlfriend about this amazing flight I just booked. It’s cool. Don’t worry. She seems happy for me… for now.

If you’ve been looking for a time to go to Australia, consider this a great opportunity to book a fun flight. I’m seeing both business and first class space from Dallas in April 2018.

You can also book first class on Qantas with 70,000 Alaska Mileage Plan miles and a few bucks for taxes and fees. Business class will cost you 80,000 American miles or 55,000 Alaska miles.

If you’re wondering why I booked with American miles, it’s because I have a ton of them and other plans for my Alaska miles.

American also allows you to put award flights on hold for five days either over the phone or online. I suggest doing it online so you won’t get hit with a phone booking fee when you complete the booking.

This can give you time to transfer SPG Starpoints to your account, as transfers take a couple days to process. Remember, every 20,000 SPG points you transfer, you’ll get a bonus 5,000 miles.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go stare at my email inbox while I impatiently wait for my e-ticket to arrive so I can stop worrying it was all too good to be true!
