Why We Like It

The Chase Sapphire Preferred has long been a go-to credit card for points beginners thanks to the ability to earn 3x on dining and 2x on travel. Even people who started with other cards often come back to it at some point.

It earns Ultimate Rewards points which can be transferred to partners such as United MileagePlus, Air Canada Aeroplan, Emirates Skywards, and World of Hyatt.

To be eligible for the sign-up bonus, you can’t have received the bonus for the Sapphire Preferred or Chase Sapphire Reserve in the last 48 months. Additionally, you can’t hold either card.

The Chase 5/24 rule also applies. If you’ve opened 5+ cards from any bank that show on your personal credit report, you won’t be eligible to open the card.
